Bill Sage and Jon Abrahams star in this character
driven drama about four friends, two brothers, the fear that keeps us in
line and the fight to step out.
Once a week, Rocco and Duncan convene at
David and Michael's house, where they spend the evening betting the race
card at Yonkers, via their OTB telephone account. The evenings have become
something of a ritual and their friendship is deep. David, who is Michael's
younger brother, is a struggling playwright who supplements his Broadway
dreams by working as a carpenter; a trade he picked up from his old man.
Both his mother and father died when David was very young, so it was his
older brother Michael who raised him. It is also Michael who comes through
with a hefty amount of cash to salvage David's upcoming play. A selfless
man, Michael takes pride in his role as a giver, finding salvation for his
sacrifice through the glory of David.
Celebrating his recent engagement,
Michael decides to throw his fiancee, Rachel, a party. Following his brothers
wishes, David agrees to escort Rachel to their home. On the way there, Rachel
and David are attacked by a mugger. What starts as a holdup ends in David's
death.
The tragedy of David's murder destroys Michael's moral code. After
a lifetime of "living by the rules," Michael challenges faith and embraces
rage. This defiance leads to a world of revenge he hopes will bring self
respect. With the help of his cousin Dante, a neighborhood celebrity with
criminal ties, Michael gets his opportunity to fight back, but not before
an ironic twist emerges, offering him a gamble of great consequence.
"Mourning Glory" explores the desperation of a man searching to repair the most dangerous
part of himself, his pride, and the repercussions that arise from such a
futile battle. |
